In order to end deforestation driven by the expansion of agricultural commodities we need to monitor forests that require protection. The HCSA contributes to this goal through our mapping portal.

The interactive maps below show the distribution of High Carbon Stock (HCS) forests that have been identified through large-scale indicative mapping processes for Indonesia and Malaysia. The maps also show the location of agricultural and forestry production areas where the HCSA Toolkit is being implemented by HCSA’s plantation company members.

In addition to remote sensing and satellite data recorded in the maps below, the multi-layered HCSA assessment and mapping processes require intensive data collection from trained experts on the ground to provide biodiversity field surveys, analysis of forest cover, clarify land tenure and identify areas of community land use.
